Why Perplexity Comet made the cut

Comet is Perplexity's standalone AI browser — not a chat sidebar bolted onto Chrome but a full browser with the assistant baked in. The assistant knows what tab you are on, can summarize and answer questions about it, and chain multi-step actions across sites. I used Comet to build the original version of allthingsai.org. It got me 70 percent of the way there — solid scaffolding, decent layout, real usable code — and then I ran into the long tail of edge cases where I needed an agent with file system access and the patience to iterate. I finished the site with Manus. That is the right way to think about Comet right now: a fast, capable browsing and research agent that gets you to a workable draft, paired with a heavier autonomous agent for the messy last mile. The March 2026 update added Deep Research deliverables — PowerPoint, spreadsheets, dashboards, full sites generated from a research prompt — which closes some of that gap.
