EvaluatingMesh LLM
Mesh LLM is an open source project that pools the GPUs and memory of several machines into one OpenAI-compatible API. Add computers to the mesh and it can split a model too large for any one of them across the group.
The AIE Angle
Why Mesh LLM made the cut
Mesh LLM answers a question every local-AI hobbyist eventually asks: what if my three underpowered computers could act like one bigger one? Start a node, add more machines later, and the mesh decides whether a model runs locally, routes to a peer, or gets split across machines when it is too large for one box. Everything shows up as a single OpenAI-compatible endpoint on your own machine, so existing apps and agents can point at it without changes. You can keep a mesh private to your own computers or join the public one and share compute with strangers, which raises the harder question of how you trust a model running on someone else's machine. It's early and command-line driven, so expect some setup. If one computer is enough, start with Ollama or LM Studio.

5 Ways To Use It
Mesh LLM for business
- 1
Combine an old laptop, a desktop and a mini PC to run a model none of them could hold alone.
- 2
Give a team one shared, OpenAI-compatible endpoint backed by machines you already own.
- 3
Route requests to whichever machine on the mesh has the model loaded.
- 4
Experiment with sharing spare compute on a public mesh.
Common Questions
Mesh LLM FAQ
The questions business professionals most often ask about Mesh LLM.
What is Mesh LLM?+
Mesh LLM is an open source project that pools GPUs and memory across machines and exposes them as one OpenAI-compatible API.
Can Mesh LLM run a model that doesn't fit on one computer?+
Yes. When a model is too large for one machine, the mesh can split it across several nodes.
Is Mesh LLM private?+
You can run a mesh made only of your own machines. Joining the public mesh means other people's machines may serve requests, so keep confidential work on a private mesh.
How do I install Mesh LLM?+
It installs from the command line on macOS, Linux and Windows, including a Homebrew formula for Apple Silicon. Run the setup command, then start serving. See the project's install guides for your platform.
